Cauldron Update...

Okay it's getting to its final stages now which is great:

Silhouette 1 and 3 are only mildly different as 1 has spindly bits emerging from the ridges in the back shell. The reference for this is a combination of a scorpion shell and the beckonging seaweed curls.  Th curls on the cauldron, seen best in the bottom images, are going to be a recurring theme, as well as the idea of having 6 of some things.  The cauldron will have 6 legs, there are 6 tall beams around it. All because the Sea Witch  is large part octopus and would have 6 legs and 2 arms.

Also, the back shell is now supported by the cauldron, it isn't moulded into it somehow, and the actual basin/pot part the sea witch would use is going to be half a shallow clam shell.

I think that once I get texturing and playing with lighting it'll sit really nicely in the scene.  I've been playing around with the idea of having web-like transparency around the cauldron. There's a lot more experimentation to be done yet but it's looking good! I've been feeling really anxious about this project over the last week or so but things are looking up more now so, fingers-crossed, it'll all work out fine! :P

  1. Molly - you worry too much! Come and have a chat if you think it would be helpful/calming - trust in the pipeline - you're in production now, and your instincts will serve you as they always have. Not sure why you're feeling so uncertain. You know how to do this; you've got x number of units already under your belt remember! Compare yourself now with who you were when you first arrived; think too about how you push Night of the Monsters towards fruition. Relax if you can - this is about you learning and growing - not winning; it's not a competition, it's your process - it's you learning how and what you want from this sort of creativity and tool. Everything is looking promising, so onwards, my dear, go onwards...

    1. Thank you Phil! I'm not really sure why I'm so worried either, it's all a bit strange. I'd definitely like to have a chat if you're free on Tuesday some time, I'll be in all day so feel free to grab me if you have 5 minutes :)

      I will keep pushing onwards and try to relax a bit! I'm sure I'll stop being such a worry-wart and just be amazing at some point :P

  2. sorry - meant to say 'pushed Night of the Monsters...' I'm not in on Tuesday unfortunately, as it is Online Review day for Year 1 - maybe drop me an email - write as if you're speaking, get it off your chest maybe - warts and all - and I know you don't like to make a fuss and you're a bit of a 'pleaser', but how about just getting something said? Better out than in and all that! :)

  3. Looking lovely Molly. Try to get the figurehead and the surrounding elements of the cauldron / the mast in the background all to the level of the cauldron and you'll be doing great. It's just a case of making assets to replace the block out objects in this scene. Once you start adding more and more you should start to feel a bit more confident about it all. I'm really looking forward to seeing the figure head and the skeleton bits and pieces coming into the scene.
