Updated Walk Cycle...

I created a blend shape to make the trousers respond more to his weight and movement, here's how the cycle looks at the moment:

Definitely is a big improvement, it actually makes it look like they're moving with him now. Good stuff! :)

  1. Hey Molly,

Jordan and I were talking about your character, and we're both very excited to see him coming along in leaps and bounds - well, shuffling along in a rather miserable way :) We were discussing his feet, because there's something 'unconvincing' about the way they contact with the ground - they still don't seem to be absorbing any force or weight, and while we were struggling to identify what might be done about it, we did come around to the idea that maybe his shoes need further refinement as designed objects and perhaps it's the detailing of them that might ultimately help them connect to this world more satisfyingly. We were discussing the idea of giving him shoelaces; or simply shaping them more so and using the same technique you used for his hair to 'lift' that surface effectively. It's like the way those buttons and belt buckle really help sell the movement of the upper body; is it that the plain black nondescript shoes somehow feel more 'pre-vizzy' and less 'of' him - and would a bit more secondary detail both shape the shoe and help it 'feel' his trudge? I certainly don't want to throw you into a tailspin about something as 'minor' as his shoes, but I just want you to think about how you might be able to make those shows work a bit harder for you somehow... Of course, it might also be that the walk-cycle itself is where the tweaking needs to occur, so I'm just thinking out loud here... I'd certainly get Alan to take a look as a matter of principle anyway :)

    1. Yeah, that all sounds fair enough! I'm glad you're both enjoying him though! :D I've got a bit of a bug at the moment, which is why I'm at home, but I'll make an @Alan post shortly and see if he can give me some pointers. Thanks for your advice! :D
