Tamara De Lempicka...

Tom pointed me toward this artist and her style of painting is really fascinating!

I find these paintings really unusual. Some of them feature quite intimidating individuals, some seem really prideful and arrogant and some are just beautiful. The variations between the pure innocence seen in some of young women and the loathing in the eyes of others is really fascinating to me.  Also, the ribbon-like hair seems like it shouldn't belong next to the soft, perfectly lit skin of the subjects in the paintings but it does. Maybe it's the icey eyes that pull them together but whatever it is, it's really amazing.

All of these images were foung at http://www.tamara-de-lempicka.org/

  1. Hey Molly, pretty soon, I'll be doing a shout out for volunteers from your year to 'mentor' clusters of incoming first years during the first semester. I'm just keen to give the new students a very accelerated experience of the course culture - and to get their heads in the game asap. I would very much like you to be one of my mentors, Molly - and all it really means is that mentors would pay particular interest to the blogs of those students allocated to them. i'm obviously looking at students who, during their own first year, developed a great work ethic and earned their stripes; you are one of these! So, that said, would you be willing to mentor Meg, who is the first of the incoming students to go 'live'? In the first instance, it's just saying Hi and helping out with any wobbles etc.

    You'll find Meg's blog here:
