80's Cartoon Research...

So many amazing theme songs, so little time! Here are a few of the cartoons I'd like to use as reference later:

Visionaries:
  • One female knight named Galadria.
"The only female knight among the Spectral Knights, hailing from Androsia. She possesses the totem of the Dolphin. Galadria is the love interest of Cryotek. Possessed of no staff, she is capable of driving the vehicles, but was never seen doing so in the series...In the comic books, however, she possessed a shield (a circular buckler), which was subsequently imbued with the Power of Healing (although not until issue 5). Her main adversary is Virulina. Unlike most women of her age, Galadria cannot perform domestic tasks such as sewing and cooking, though Cryotek is quite capable."

  • Her Nemesis is named Virulina, who is considered a much more interesting character.

Transformers:

Thundercats:

  • Cheetara is the only adult female of the Thundercats.
  • She's seen to be as caring as she is brave.
  • A physically fit, strong and fast character.

Some of these will be used for character ideas, narrative and some I just like as reference on this subject. Lots of good stuff though! :D

  1. *Castaspella* - groan!

A couple of suggestions: watch the movie 'Big Trouble in Little China' - okay, wrong country, but I think it will be useful...

Also, I know nothing about the Japanese tradition of magic, but I do know that ghosts loom large culturally, so maybe a ghost ninja villain?

Also - because it's fantasy, all your characters could obviously be animals, so it needn't be the 'dress-up Ken & Barbie' of She-Ra etc.

  2. I know! Would you believe it, Netossa's skill is throwing nets! Painful, just painful XP

Oooo! Any excuse to watch Big Trouble in Little China! If it's slightly relevant than I'm on it! :D

I'll also definitely do more research into the folk-tales of ghosts and demons and any other mystical stories related to Japanese culture. Seeing as the characters don't have to be human they could be related to any interesting creatures that pop up too, which is also pretty cool! :D

  3. Hi Molly,
Possibly some of the worst names I have ever seen here. Please do not be compelled to repeat this formula! I think there is a lot of rich background material to work with here, so it sounds like you can have real fun with this.

  4. Oh no! Visual influences only! There will be no 'Shurikenthrowa' or 'backstabba' here :D
