Flossy Experiment...

Okay so seeing as I did something similar to Walter I thought I'd have a go at making Flossy more ice cream like too. Here's how she looks at the moment:

Quick sort-of-creepy Render
Walter for Comparison
I think it's cute and that it could work better than the wool. The geometry is still messy and she's obviously not textured but I think it could be a better solution than the previous lumpiness. One thing I'm not sure on though is that she kind of has a beard now because I tried giving her a mouth. I like the idea that she's got a mouth that's hidden until she smiles, so maybe the beardyness isn't such a bad thing if I tweak it enough.

It is REALLY hard to resist putting a cherry on top though...Anyway, I'll work on it more tomorrow and hopefully get some funky rough ideas of how this would look lit up too. Let me know what you think though!

  1. Probably could do with just being simplified a little bit? Less ridges I'm thinking.

    1. Yeah I agree. A softer 99 ice cream I think! I'm also starting to see the way she lights up as colourful sprinkles, but maybe that's just me thinking work my stomach :P

    2. Hey Molly - it takes courage and a lot of nerve to break a character in order to re-visit it structurally - but this is indeed an exciting development - and Tom is right - softer, more simplified, but yes! :)

    3. YAY! I'm glad to hear it, thanks Phil :D
It did take a lot to make a whole new head model but I got to re-use the face and ears which was a cheeky bonus :P

  2. Also, this is INCREDIBLY nit-picky but I can't help but notice you have a slight blue cast on your character cards? The shadows are actually dark blue as opposed to black. I think you should remove this because it's washing some the vibrancy out of your characters. When it comes to get them printed or something your colour's will be much truer without it, and that blue tint might get enhanced more than you wish.

    1. Ah yeah I had a similar chat with Alan about this. I'm going to keep the blue gradient shadow that I put on the card but the characters themselves will have that blue removed and replaced with the relevant colour version in their ambient colour maps. I understand now that I've washed them out without realising it so I will be fixing that, thank you for reminding me Tom :D

  3. Interesting development Molly - The ears should have a hint of 'wafer' about them. Just a hint though, through colour and shading.

    1. Oooo! That's an interesting idea! I like that she looks like ice cream, but she could still work as the super soft rag :P

I've just put her ears on now too, so if you have any advice on making them hint towards wafers, that'd be great :D
