Bioluminescence...

I really want to capture the glow that the images I've been looking at seem to emit and Phil told me that it is known as bioluminescence.  This, plus the guidance towards a couple of videos was brilliant. I've now got a few that I want to put here as reference:

35 sec - 1 min 32

Of course, some Avatar:

2.40 - 3.20 (roughly)

  1. Hey Molly - just to clarify, bioluminescence does relate to a specific attribute in nature - but doesn't relate to cells etc. What I mean is, the glow you want is an aesthetic - not an actual characteristic of the cells themselves. I think the glow in those images is born from the dyes used to show them up (sometimes) and also it comes from the way in which they're photographed. There's a great book on the shelf above the pigeon holes in the cg baseroom that is full of other great 'bioluminescent-like' imagery that you might want to look at.

  2. Ahhh you're right. I'm a bit unsure how to make my images look that way to be honest so I'll grab that book tomorrow morning and have a look before Maya starts. If it's useful can I take it out for the weekend or are they to stay in the room?
