George A. Romero's 'The Crazies' Screenshots...

These are overdue as I watched it about a week ago, nevertheless, they're just as relevant and useful now:

I looked at this film because it's all about making the familiar, unfamiliar.  The general premise is that the town has been infected with a biological weapon that makes them go crazy, but there's no physical way to tell the difference between who is and isn't infected.  The use of 'the good guys' wearing gas masks makes them instantly unsettling because there's no way to see who they are or what emotions they may have.  This combined with the 'survivors' the audience follows not knowing which of them is infected creates for a powerful film. Plus it has a cracker of an ending :D

  1. I love the bit at the start where kids come downstairs to find the Dad going crazy in the house. The rest of the film is a bit of a mess but it's quite enjoyable. One of my guilty pleasures of sorts.

The remake looked utter shite! (when don't they though?)

  2. Yeah I saw the trailer for it, it's a shame because I really like the main actor in it, Timothy Olyphant, even if just for his role in Deadwood.
It was a messy film but it was definitely entertaining. I just always enjoy it when they have a grim ending and the writers are brave enough to actually kill main characters off :P
